PostSubject: Pornography and Indian perspective   Sat May 07, 2011 12:24 pm

Well, I thought I raise it after I
saw a documentary in some Indian News Channel. They were showing images
of lies, deceit and very bad things all together.

I totally condemn hidden cameras and invading ordinary people's privacy
with such activities. However, there are professionals (ofcourse not to
be followed) people, who create such movies. There are some sick ones
(called hardcore) other are milder ones showing love making and nude ...
often with pretty romantic stories. Nothing though so explicit ... its
another form.

I don't know how India, or perhaps you people see it. Addiction to
anything is bad, but do you think it should be uprooted from the world?
Do you think it is totally unhealthy?

I for one believe in physical union only between husband and wife, and
in no other form. Respectfulness and sanctity maintained. But is it
wrong for teens in their pre-twenties to see what sex looks like ...
though romantic porns? Or I dunno what you call it Very Happy ... mild ones?

I don't know... maybe it should be wrong ... or what is your say in it? bounce

If I raised a bad topic, forgive the Polish and I will delete immediately Laughing

You have NOT raised a bad topic . I welcome this discussion .

I think pornography should be uprooted altogether . It serves no constructive purpose ..............except titillating the sexual urge . I would describe it as a woman who dresses up purposefully to be a painted harlot . She can dress up to be a beautifull wife or bride too ........but she chooses to put dark red lipstick , too much rouge ,provocative lingerie and become a harlot . Why ? For the act of sex . That same act can be experienced in the most intimate , loving and fulfilling way too ............if the woman chooses to be a bride or a wife who wants to express LOVE , not mere LUST . Porn is not even about lust .........it is about lust presented in an obscene form .

It should be uprooted and banned altogether . All these pop ups on the net give us a glimpse of what goes on in those websites . Its SICK . If teenagers see it ............their minds r affected forever . They make the act of sex dirty , not beautiful . Seeing those sites is as good as visiting prostitutes mentally . They are all for a single purpose .........mental titillation to make the sexual experience memorable . But is such titillation necessary in the process of love making ? The innocent novelty of love making as two individuals explore on their own needs no such filthy artificial titillation . The sanctity of love making is totally destroyed .

While the above statement may be condemned by many as a personal choice ............coz I know for a fact that many couples watch porn ...........I wish to still uphold my views on banning it from this world . It affects the mind as it plays sick mind games with it . There is a very thin line between titillation and sick titillation . One doesn't even understand when one crosses it . The sexual games become more and more dangerous .......they cross lines from handcuffs to whips to PAIN . If one becomes addicted to poison .........initially taken in small doses as an antidote for a problem ........slowly the dosage is increased as more and more strong poison is required . Like Drugs .

Why should our young children be exposed to the subject of sex in this way ? They try to see it on the sly ..........make no mistake about it . One may forbid it at home but they see it with friends . Somewhere outside . They get a downright wrong idea about sex .

The noted serial killer Ted Bundy , while granting his last interview before his death .........gave his final message to the world ..........prevent your young children from seeing porn . At ALL COSTS . It affects the mind deeply .........he said . He had found a heap of porn magazines thrown in the garbage by his neighbour when he was 14 and he had taken them home and seen them all . By the time he was done with them ..........he had become addicted to that heady titillation and had gone searching for more and more in many avenues . He practised all that he read with the women he raped and bashed to death . Bundy insisted that one cud not RESPECT women after going through PORN . He warned that PORN brought out the animal in a human being .........so best nOT to go that way . Ted Bundy's Last interview is available on You Tube .

Something that presents sex in a negative way ..........something that chips away the sanctity of the love making act ..........why is it needed ? Cannot sex be explained through biology , sex education , by doctors to teenagers ? Why keep these avenues handy for them ..........where r we going to run after them forbidding them ?

The act of sex is the most beautiful one that unifies a man and woman , elevates u spiritually and evolves u as a human being . Why allow ANYTHING that presents it in a distorted way ? Who needs such titillation and so called guidance ? That possibly harms society and creates messed up individuals that can be a potential threat to society ...........instead of doing good .

BAN PORN is my stand .

You are so very right in your description Koolsadhu. Porn of that nature should be banned. But do you think the same about those porn which are not showing "hardcore" ... but just kisses and lovemaking? Not exactly the things which make it wild and mad. Suspect

You know, teens want to learn about sex, but they start discovering the tiltillating part first. I remember, me and two of my friends gathered once while we would sleep together.... and among us three was my best friend, and the other girl was just a friend we have. She made us see porn ... not exactly the kind you mentioned, but rather of a much mild nature. Foreplay, kisses, a very romantic and sincere story too Very Happy, but yes, eventually it carried nudity. No genitals were shown though ...

Quite tempting for young teens I tell you bounce ... un deniably tempting. After that we did watch a few times, in long intervals. But then stopped it ... bounce ... later ofcourse got involved in services, and study, and we found men for life too ... but there is a phase in life, specially in today's highly technologically advanced world, where everything is there just waiting for a button to be clicked for it bounce ... difficult to stop.

But then I echo with you on the watching porn with husband or wife matter. That is ridiculous and stupid. It vaporizes the sanctity of a relationship... and you are very right to say that it takes away to pure and fulfilling nature of sex into ones life flower. Very true and agree to all your description.

But, can this be stopped or regulated on the teen? A friend will show, and then he/she will see a few times more. Can every teen gather enough strength to say a "stop" or put some limitations to their adventure? Can porn actually be banned in this modern world where information is increasingly no able to be controlled?

I wonder what is the way to deal with it ... as its clients are not really the adults over 25 ... but its actually for teens between 15 and 21 ... its the biggest market for porn. Also, its that age of 18 which is globally researched to be the deciding age where a person either gets an addiction, or learns to move away from it.

What can be an ideal and workable approach?

Are all porn the same? I think not, because some are mild and home are using the whip and dark harlot lipstick and disgusting approach as you say. But eventually they both do serve same or similar purposes. Is is so realy, this matter?

Other than teen hormones, what else does drive it? ... It seems this problem in growing in India as it is around the world... and Poland is among it too. However among teens it is seen as nothing extraordinary in Poland. But excesses, or among couple, or adults it is seen as pervertion.

As a society, are we confused with our roles and the barriers we should set for us?

BIG QUESTION bounce

zofi.

not a bad topic.

anything is discussion worthy even Arnold Schwarznegger tongue Laughing

ok porn - like alcohol or gambling or prostitution is the support of a vice. a person's uncontrollable and heidonistic urge.

porn has a very broad range - I won't go to through the details except to say that some are based on normal urges and some are based on such perverse fetishes that they boogle the mind.

sex though taboo post british rule in India has always existed - remember the kamasutra. so many positions and so complicated it's like looking at a scientific journal of sorts Laughing

aside from perverts, why do regular people succumb to porn?

it does not matter from which culture, community or race we are - all humans have a basic animalistic urge. some prioritize it and some deprioritize it. but it exists nevertheless.

regular people who watch porn do so to fill a gap in their sexual life. be it teenagers who need it to help accommodate intense hormonal changes that they cannot act on or speak to or are in many cases even ashamed of. adults do it because they are probably having a dismal sex life and they need some kind of stop gap recreation.

is it bad? I don't know - what is worse - teenagers watching porn or teenagers visiting prostitutes to deal with inevitable raging hormones? Some might say the former. Others might say that watching porn might infact lead them to have an active sexual life as it brings normalcy to desires that might have previously been moderated. I don't know. there is no right or wrong argument here.

Most teenage boys and now even some girls view porn in print or multi-media. I guess more than them watching it occasionally is their level of dependence on it and the value system we install in them that teaches them to respect their bodies and those of others and see sex as an important facet of a broader more mature relationship.

end of day. it is inevitable that kids might watch it as the access to this has been made so easy these days but a large part of the access is how mature the child is and how of a support structure the parents do provide and their countering influence on a child's value system and behaviour over that of their peers

Banning is not even an option. It will take something shady and make it illegal and thereby increasing the adventurous lure for this interested.

prohibition in the US did not stop the problem but start the era of alcohol smuggling.

banning anything including marijuana has not curbed the vice it has in fact taken it underground and made people very resourceful in their access to it and use of it.

This is the way a woman describes sex.

men do not see sex or sexual urges in this way. they see it as some crass and basic. they say the above sentences only to ensure compatibility with their companions.

woman romanticizes sex. that is why we always call intercourse lovemaking

men are more simple. they call intercourse sex.

women say do you want to make love i.e flowers, wine, ambience etc.

men says do you want to have sex tonight i.e, food, probably movie, then the act.

men don't get emotional about sex. they enjoy for the simple immediate pleasure that it is

women see it as a way of emotionally bonding with their mate.

men see porn as an equally simple tool that is needed to aid or compensate for the sexual act. to them it is not abhorrent but just an enabler.

I tend to be very cautious of men who indicate otherwise because it indicates that they are lying to themselves or to me. I think the former is worse that the latter.

because not all children are comfortable discussing sex with their parents or older siblings so they get misinformed

parents tell them porn is disgusting and maybe leave it like that

isn't it illegal for children under 18 to have access to porn?

This is the way a woman describes sex.

Maybe so and true about what u said about the male POV . But then its women who r the driving force in upholding most values . We Hindus regard her as the Shakti behind a man ......the strength of men . They influence men ..........they bring out the emotions from them .

Even if men initially do not regard the sexual act as sanctifying etc ........with the influence of the woman , her constant company ........he does come around to seeing various subjects with her eyes . She can teach him that he requires no such external support ...........all he needs to do is tap his inner self . The Love of woman DOES change a man drastically . Man always remains the creature his mother made him or his wife influenced him to be . He learns to value what his mother taught him at a certain stage in his life when he reflects on it ..........its the same with the woman he sleeps with on a daily basis . He DOES get touched to the soul with her love . Upwardly unemotional and impassive .........man is a most emotional creature when stirred .

Porn disrespects this Shakti .....woman . I oppose it from a spiritual perspective too . Bundy maintained that one loses respect for woman when one sees Porn .

I oppose even the milder versions as I believe opposing some and allowing some serves no purpose . If u oppose , oppose the concept itself .

When I say ban .......i merely state my wish . The urge to explore sex will always be there ............but if industries are allowed to make a business out of it corruption of young minds will be rampant .

Kama Sutra is an ancient text that explores different ways of enjoying this sanctifying union to the hilt . It is sex education in an advanced form ............for adults . It is not Porn .

It does not matter if the teenagers r 18 or not . They DO see it . They have ways of lying on websites . This is a FACT .

It always comes back to the women . They make or break a home .........they r the driving force who influence fathers , sons , brothers ...........as wives , mothers , daughters ...........daughter in laws . Their calm and steady love soothes every animal instinct of a man and tames him , brings out the dormant emotions in him .

Porn seeks to bring out the animal in a man or woman . That is its ONLY purpose . And Unleashing an animal is dangerous . What if it gets out of control ? It did with the likes of Bundy , Gacy and Dahmer and even Paul Bernardo .

Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka were a classic case of a COUPLE who watched Porn . They got so addicted to it , they soon got dissatisfied with it and started making their own porn ...........MORE dangerous , MORE exciting . They were videotaping the girls they raped and killed .

Anything that taps the animal in man shud be banned . ANYTHING .

They influence men ..........they bring out the emotions from them.

Ideally speaking, yes. Quite often, this aspect of men never changes. They just learn to hide it better in front of their wives and mothers for the sake of the latter’s sensibilities and to maintain positive relationships with the women in their lives.

Porn disrespects this Shakti .....woman .

I agree

Kama Sutra is an ancient text that explores different ways of enjoying this sanctifying union to the hilt . It is sex education in an advanced form ............for adults . It is not Porn .

I am sorry if I implied it was porn. I brought it up to indicate that at one point of time the thought of sex and physical intimacy was not taboo in India. It was considered natural. Victorianism added the puritanical lens to sex in society (I guess to compensate for the hedonistic behaviour in the society they lived in). Our influence with such puritanical people in the days of the “raj” inspired a reactionary response and made sex the taboo it is in homes in India today. Indians are based on a core family value system. We cultivate it in our children – boys and girls alike – since birth. But quite often our conservative backgrounds which are largely responsible for the long term values of these same kids do not meet the short term needs of inquisitive minds and people who have a heightened sex drive (which is also natural). I am not saying we promote it through our conservatism, I am just saying we do not address it appropriately.

My friends and I came from very conservative backgrounds. As I am sure did many others on this forum. I never saw my parents hug or have any public displays of affection. That made me conservative too and I had several inhibitions of discussing sex. My cousin brother grew up in the same environment and he was brought up with the same values and he behaved very conservative at home and he did not have a girlfriend or a sexual relationship with anyone to the best of the family’s knowledge but I do not think this conservatism carried into his discourse or relationships with the guys he hung out with. I am sure he had a normal curiosity, etc. He just did not show it to us. He has a family and is well settled right now. That was part of his own discovery phase.

It always comes back to the women . They make or break a home .........they r the driving force who influence fathers , sons , brothers ...........as wives , mothers , daughters ...........daughter in laws . Their calm and steady love soothes every animal instinct of a man and tames him , brings out the dormant emotions in him.

I agree women are an important influence but men have been known to succumb in spite of their love for their spouses or mothers. I think it rests with the individual only – the partner is more of a support.

Porn seeks to bring out the animal in a man or woman . That is its ONLY purpose . And Unleashing an animal is dangerous . What if it gets out of control?

All valid questions and fears. Again it goes back to the individual. Many believe that cigarettes are the gateway to marijuana and then drugs. Yet millions smoke cigarettes the world over and stop at it instead of moving on to worse addictions. They please themselves only so far and then go no further because of sense of self and family. But as you say, the risk and fears remain especially for parents. Porn is no longer the vice of only the male gender.

I am sorry if I implied it was porn.

Oh no u didn't . So don't apologise at all . I merely told that to point out that conservative India was actually very advanced in the sex education field . Their ancient texts and sculptures at Khajrraho etc r proofs of this . Just as Patanjali's Yogasutra explained yoga in detail .............he explained how BREATH of a human being controlled the inner and outer factors around him .............Vatsyana's Kama sutra was a detailed thesis on ways to enjoy supreme bliss in sex .

These were scientific studies .

I agree that its NOT a vice of the male gender anymore . Myra Hindley . Karla Homolka, Rosemary West etc have amply proved it . Karla was the lead in the videotaping of the raped girls .
